Carlos Salazar Lermont (Venezuela) is an artist, curator and producer. Graduated in Visual Arts from UNEARTE (2012) and the Escuela de Artes Visuales Cristóbal Rojas (2005). Active since 2005. Has participated in several national and international events as ID performance, Ruta Nocturna, Encuentro de Arte Corporal, Velada de Santa Lucía, Fugaz (Venezuela), HORASperdidas (México), TRAMPOLIM (Brazil), NADAQUEVER (Argentina) and Performar (Dominican Republic). His work deals with diverse themes and methodological approaches that reach from the conceptualist tendency focused on process to more emotionally charged proposals that rely on concrete actions and the images that merge from them.

“ECCE HOMO”

Although being a performance art proposal, Ecce Homo behaves almost as an installation, where the audience relates to the work as a finding of a “body-and-objects-constructed” image that suggests some potentially realizable actions that include burning him alive.

Ecce Homo performance art proposal is inspired by the classical fine art theme of the same name depicting Jesuschrist in a pitiful way, just before being sent by the crowd for crucifixion. As does the original reference, this performance’s intention is to portrait the subject as a vulnerable suffering being, whose destiny may depend on some other’s decision. However, in this reinterpretation we dispense the religious content, focusing on the human individual as a sacrifice, willing to die for a cause.
