Fereshteh Toosi (US) is a multidisciplinary artist who collects and recombines sounds, words, images, and actions. Her participatory social practice ranges from community–driven oral history projects to guerrilla interventions in public places. Fereshteh’s creative research focuses on cultural geography, sensory ethnography, sustainability, and migration issues. Fereshteh earned a BA from Oberlin College and lived in Japan before completing her MFA from Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Art. She was the Faculty Fellow in Arts and Civic Engagement at Syracuse University before joining the full-time faculty at Columbia College Chicago.

“Shoebox Lunch” is an interactive listening event. This multisensory performance highlights the intersections between Black culture, migration, and wellness.

You will receive a package as you travel on a train journey completely in the dark.

One by one, you will meet characters telling personal stories about families and food heritage. These memories will be shared with you through sound, touch, taste, and smell.
